Hajj (Pilgrimage)

The pilgrimage signifies the Muslims movement to the Kaa'bah in Makkah to please Allah (swt). This sacred site represents ultimate truth and justice and is the nucleus of the Islamic world.
"Behold! We gave the site, to Abraham, of the (Sacred) House saying: 'Associate not anything in worship with me; and sanctify My House for those who compass it round, or stand up, or bow, or prostrate themselves therein in prayer. And proclaim the pilgrimage among men; they will come to thee on foot and mounted on every kind of camel, lean on account of journeys through deep and distant mountain highways.'" (22:26-27)
All believers who are physically and financially able must perform the Hajj at least once in their lifetime.

A Message From the Director of the Islamic Center

To meet the demands of the people we serve and to keep more in pace with the times, we have updated our internet site to better fulfill the needs of visitors. If you are returning or visiting for the first time, we have added new features and have developed more efficient search capabilities to enable more streamlined information retrieval. Additionally, we have linked to searchable Qur'an and Hadith and have developed a forum where the Imam and others in our community can post and answer questions.

We hope this new site will better assist you regarding questions about Islam in general and the functions of the Islamic Center such as the prayer schedules and the Muslim holidays, history, educational opportunities in both Islamic and Arabic classes, the library, the bookstore, donations, Zakat distributions, and free meals. all of which are provided here. We have also updated information for tour groups interested in visiting the Islamic Center and have included a section specifically for tour groups addressing Frequently Asked Questions.

As always, we welcome you to our site and to the Islamic Center of Washington, DC. Meanwhile, we are open to suggestions, feedback, and/or any new ideas to help us better serve you. We ask Allah to help us all achieve our objectives and advance our knowledge.

Peace Be With You,

Dr. Abdullah M. Khouj

Director of the Islamic Center
